Flu Vaccine Update - 2016
Your pediatricians at CVP are constantly assessing new medical information and keeping up to date with recommended policies and procedures. We have been informed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (our governing body) as well as the ACIP (advisory committee on immunization practices) NOT to use the live intranasal flu vaccine (Flumist) this upcoming season. A study of the data over the past 3 years shows the vaccine was not effective in preventing flu infection. Injectable flu vaccine, however was helpful in preventing flu. More information can be found at the following link:
We understand that the lack of intranasal flu vaccine is likely to be disappointing for some families and puts stress on children and who are looking for an alternative to a shot. We still recommend that all our patients over the age of 6 months at the time of flu season receive their injectable flu vaccine.
If you have specific questions related to the flu vaccine and your child(ren), please contact the office and one of our clinical staff will return your call.
Important Changes to Prescription Regulations
State of CT regulations have changed for 2016 regarding the prescribing of controlled substances. For our patients, most ADHD medications (stimulants) fall into this category. Our prescribing practices have had to change accordingly. Please contact our office to discuss how these regulations will affect your child regarding refills of medications.
Candlewood Valley Pediatrics Announces New Online Patient Portal!
While much of the healthcare industry has been slow to adopt electronic medical record (EHR) technology, in 2007, Candlewood Valley Pediatrics began implementing an EHR system. Currently, almost all of our daily patient encounters are in electronic format. We are continuously seeking ways to embrace the benefits of our system. For example, we are proud to announce the launch of our innovative new patient portal.
The secure patient portal will allow you to
- request an appointment
- request prescription refills
- pay your bill or ask a question about your bill
- request a referral
- ask a nurse a non-urgent routine question and
- receive lab and test results
all at a time when it is convenient for you. (New features will continue to be added in the future.)
We believe that our secure patient portal will help us to continue our tradition of going beyond what is expected to enhance your family’s experience with us. Sign up today - click on the "Patient Portal" button at the top of this page.
