Dr. Matthew Abel joined Candlewood Valley Pediatrics in 2001. Originally from Yorktown Heights, NY, he is a 1993 Alumnus of George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, where he earned a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. He also received his M.A. in Biomedical Education from Touro College in Dix Hills, NY, in 1994. He completed his medical degree in 1998 from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Faculty of Medicine, in Haifa, Israel. Upon returning to the United States, he completed his pediatric residency in 2001 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ.
Dr. Abel is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is on staff at Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford as well as Nuvance Health in Danbury. He enjoys all aspects of pediatrics, especially cardiology and infectious diseases.
Dr. Abel lives in New Milford with his wife and has two older children. His son graduated from the University of Miami and his daughter is a soon-to-be college freshman! When not seeing patients in the office, he is an avid golfer, peloton junkie (drmatthewA on the leaderboard), enjoys Broadway shows with his family, and rooting for any NY sports team!
