Sometimes a child is ill on the day his/her physical is scheduled. When this occurs, you have a choice. You may bring in your child to be seen and treated for the illness, and we will reschedule the physical for another day. This option is recommended for complex illnesses or problems that you wish to discuss at length with your child’s provider. When your child has a simple illness such as an earache, sore throat, or fever, we can usually treat your child’s illness and complete the physical on the same day. Please be aware that these are two separate visits and will be charged separately. Please notify the receptionist of your child’s illness and your choice to reschedule the physical or be seen for both visits together. Thank you for your cooperation.

Evidence-Based Care

Candlewood Valley Pediatrics utilizes evidence-based care. It has been shown that when the overlap of research-based evidence, clinical expertise, and a patient’s values and preferences is utilized, the result is the best possible outcome. The best possible outcome includes improved quality, improved patient satisfaction, and reduced costs.

Evidence-based medicine is not just about using evidence to design treatment plans. It also encourages a dialogue between patients and providers, so patients can share in the decision-making and make their values and preferences known. Providers listen to patient concerns and take them into consideration to determine the appropriate treatment plan.

Technology allows practices to access previously untapped data and best practices vetted and agreed upon by peers in near real-time, and that provides the best available evidence to make the best possible decisions to achieve the best possible outcomes.

We at Candlewood Valley Pediatrics utilize evidence that comes from randomized controlled clinical trials, as that is considered the gold standard of medical knowledge. Our clinicians review clinical issues based on this evidence and determine whether the evidence is valid and applicable to the situation and population in the practice. If the evidence is determined to be appropriate, our clinicians apply the evidence, with input from the patient. We then go a step further to assess the outcome of the decision to determine if that decision may be appropriate for future use.
